This is a great product. We bought it for our cat because we needed to move him away from grazing and to control his food volume. It works exactly as described and promised. It delivers pretty close to the amount of food that you select in the program. (It may vary a bit, depending on the size of the kibble.) It delivers the food on schedule, as well. The motor is audible when it delivers the food, but not annoyingly so. It is actually kind of cute to see how the cat scampers in to the kitchen to see the kitchen when he hears the motor start.Several reviews have complained that this is hard to program. I followed the instructions step by step, and had no problem setting the program, or changing it when I needed to. The key is to read the instructions and follow carefully.This is a great product to feed your cat over several days while you are away. I was a little skeptical, wanting to be sure it was actually delivering the food while I was away. I actually put a rubber band around the outside of the canister when we would be away, and could see when I returned that the level of food had dropped--assuring me that the Cat Mate was working.We used the feeder for several months, but had to give it up, because our cat is diabetic, and we switched from dry food to low carb, canned food. But now our neighbors are using it for their cat! They are having the same success with the Cat Mate. Overall, it has been in use for almost 2 years, with no problems, at all. I wholeheartedly recommend this product.

The C3000 is for cats or small dogs; the D3000 for dogs has a shorter spout. Apart from automatic feeding during your absence, it controls how much your pet eats, useful for dieting. Cats also need plenty of water, placed a few metres away from both where they eat and defecate; too little water results in kidney problems.The unit is sturdy and, placed in a corner, my big cat doesn't knock it over or get the lid off (it is clipped on, and the C3000 can eventually be screwed to a board). The instructions on pet-mate.com seem complex, but assembly and programming is quite simple. A screw feed distributes about 10g units of dry cat pellets. You only need to push the metal screw end into the front end of the spout, and then clip the spout into the base; the other metal screw end sits loosely against a plastic wheel, which rotates to distribute each unit. Wir haben uns den Catmate C3000 gekauft, nachdem unser Trixie Le Bistro nach nur knapp zehn Monaten aufgrund der labilen Fördermechanik den Betrieb eingestellt hat. Nach langen Überlegungen haben wir uns doch wieder zu einem Futterautomaten durchgerungen und unsere Wahl fiel trotz des hohen Preises von fast 100 Euro auf dieses Modell.Das Gerät mach einen sehr robusten Eindruck. Das Trockenfutter wird hier über eine sehr stabile Metallschnecke in den Napf transportiert. Die Programmierung ist fast schon intuitiv und das Gerät wirkt sehr kompakt und auch insgesamt gefällig. Die Dosierung des Futters erfolgt zuverlässig. Wir haben jetzt über mehrere Wochen den Füllgrad immer relativ konstant halten können und es gelang unseren beiden Katern trotz entsprechender Versuche nicht, zusätzliches Futter heraus zu angeln. Dies wird durch die Förderschnecke zuverlässig verhindert. Außerdem füllt sich der angenehm große Napf schön gleichmäßig, da die Pellets über ein kleines Rohr fast bis zur Napfmitte transportiert werden und erst dort (von oben) in den Napf fallen. Beim Gerät von Trixie kam es öfter zum "Futterstau", weil das Futter quasi als geschlossene Fläche flach von hinten in den Napf fiel und sich aufstaute, sobald der Boden des Napfes bedeckt war (obwohl die gewünschte Futtermenge noch nicht ausgegeben wurde).Insgesamt sind wir (bisher) mit unserer Wahl sehr zufrieden. Einziger kleiner Kritikpunkt ist das sehr deutlich vernehmbare Arbeitsgeräusch des Antriebs bei der Futterausgabe. Aber daran haben sich unsere Katzen sofort gewöhnt und auch wir empfinden es nicht als störend. Der Trixie war hier im Vergleich aber nahezu lautlos.*** Update 22.02.2014 *** Der Futterautomat funktioniert immer noch einwandfrei und das Arbeitsgeräusch des Antriebs bleibt der einzige (kleine) Kritikpunkt.
