I recently built horseshoe pits in my back yard. I stained wooden planks and made an elevated pitching box. It looks nice, however using real steel horseshoes would only ding up the wood I worked so hard one constructing. Then I came across these rubber horseshoes.I'm happy with these shoes as far as what I intend to use them for. They're hard rubber and will not ding up the wood or break any nearby windows. You also don't have to worry about small children wandering around close by as you're playing and someone being hit. It won't give someone a concussion should you actually hit them square in the face but it is hard rubber after all so you should still be careful. With that though, they are a bit lighter in weight than the steel ones of course. It's just something you'll have to get used to throwing if you've been using real shoes previously. My main gripe is with the stakes, they're cheap plastic dollar store brand stakes that will not last with normal use. Because of that, this package as a whole is not worth $25 even with free shipping using Prime. At best, it should be no more than $15, if the stakes were made of the same material as the horse shoes, $20 is acceptable. All I really intended to use were the horse shoes but had I intended to use the stakes too, I would have been extremely disappointed. For me personally and my situation, the Pros outweigh the Cons.Pros-Durable hard rubber horseshoes will not damage wood, grass, windows, etc.-Safe for all ages.-Can be taken anywhere(beach, camping, family BBQ)-Will not rust like steel shoes.Cons-Lighter than real shoes. Throwing takes some getting used to.-Stakes are cheap and flimsy.

I looked high and low to find a set of horseshoes that my grandson could play with as well as his dad and I. Found these 100% rubber shoes and bought them. The shoes are great, they feel like real shoes and are made to look like the authentic steel horseshoes made for this game. They are much heavier than the molded plastic shoes and very resilient. The plastic post or pegs are a little lacking but we replaced them with 1" pipe very easily and cheaply as we used used pipe. Would highly recommend for a backyard toy that will last and offer fun for the entire family. PS..we set our pegs at 30 feet, not the normal 40 feet that the steel horseshoes require. The shoes are a little light for 40 feet but will work that way also. It was just a little far for my 4 year old grandson to toss them.
