I was looking for speakers just to play my vinyl records and as Cambridge claim to concentrate more on the audio side and already using a Cambridge amp I decided on the SX-60 speakers , one of my better decisions they sounded great the first time I used them and getting better every day fantastic sounding speakers .

Excellent all round quality at this price. The convenience of single cable and connection, with the speakers' use of internal crossover circuits, introduces no loss of quality that I can detect. The quoted bass response of 41Hz seems well realised, and solid. The Cambridge audio SX60 speakers give an awesome audio response in my two speaker stereo system.

Cambridge Audio has a reputation for great sounding audio products and these speakers are no exception but there are some extra issues to consider when buying.Sound Quality...Right out of the box these speakers deliver clear, well balanced sound that does not disappoint. They are very detailed and warm sounding speakers. Like most British speakers they tend to lean a bit toward the Bass end of the sound spectrum, but not so much as to be boomy or muffled. In fact the sound balance from them is near perfect in my room. The stereo image from these speakers is nearly perfect and holds up nicely even when not sitting in the "sweet spot" equidistant from both speakers. The sound balance (bass to mid to treble) even holds up nicely when off axis. When we talked about detail and clarity, a friend who joined me for the first listening session commented "I was hearing stuff in the music I've never heard before".Construction...The cabinets appear to be well built. The exterior finish is heat bonded vinyl over MDF wood composite. This is fine. It's typical of modern furniture and the speakers look good sitting on my stereo stands. However; the current fad of hiding all the screws on the front of speakers causes some rather strange assembly issues that you should know about before buying. The tweeters are not mounted like other speakers. Usually you find 3 or 4 small screws with the tweeter sitting on a thin layer of neoprene or foam. In the SX-60s the tweeters are simply glued to the front of the speaker box. ... Yep... glue. Not good. This would not likely be an issue, except for the dress rings around the woofers locking with and causing pressure against the tweeter housings. This can cause the dress ring to fit poorly. On my pair one tweeter actually fell off and landed in my hand, hanging from the wires as I tried to re-seat the woofer dress ring. My best suggestion to avoid this obvious design flaw is that if your woofer dress rings are not fitting properly, you should simply remove them and set them aside, rather than risk popping one of the tweeters off the case.Information...Please be aware that Cambridge Audio cannot supply detail information about this loudspeaker. I was not able to obtain frequency response plots, details about the crossover, or even the cross over frequency for these speakers. All of this information is important when making a buying decision.Yes the sound quality from these speakers makes them well worth the price. But because of assembly and design issues I cannot recommend this product.
