The XLR female ends of this cable does not clip in to an industry-standard XLFR male socket. All cables of this type have a clip which prevents the cable from being pulled out of its socket. The lack of tolerance of the clip fitting dimension is such that the clip cannot nor ever be successfully latch.

The xlr on both cables I ordered willNot click into male socket on my bargain brand mixer. They clicked in perfectly on my Mackie!Connection is stable with no movement of cable. Not recommended for live events where movement of the cable into a mixer or microphone could happen. I'm using them in a studio mixer with no cable stress or movement.Sound great, bench tested good.

These are not standard sized female XLR cables. As you can see from the photo, compared to a standard female XLR cable, these are just a tad longer in on the connecter. They still work but you’re likely to run into the same issue I did - the connection doesn’t lock into place when inserting in to your male XLR connection. It works. However, it doesn’t “click-in” like every other female XLR cable does. For $8 I don’t feel like I was taken but I feel like I’ve only purchased a very temporary solution to my audio needs. Buy at your own risk.

I use these for inserting external effects. My mixer has balanced 1/4 inch aux jacks whereas the FX unit has XLR. These cables are high quality and reliable—I use other cables from this manufacturer for road gigs without any issues, and several of them are a few years old. Whenever I need cables I always look at what Cable Matters has to offer first.

Update: these cables are fantastic just the way they come. However, they are not serviceable. I wanted to shorten one of these but as soon as I put a soldering iron to one of the solder joints in one of the connectors, the insulation around the wire just completely melted and disintegrated and everything (hot, cold and shielding) just fused together in a molten mess. Very low quality insulation material. I definitely still recommend these and they seem durable. But you will be unable to service or modify them.Original review: Actual fully pro cables at a normal price, finally! Imitation Neutrik connectors but equal quality. Very neat and professional soldering job. My only complaint... I need 1.5 ft XLR to TRS cables. Please make those!
