I got this cable to connect up a camera and other older DV devices and while it looks good out of the box with a fit and build quality that look good, there was suspiciously no evidence of a converter chip of any kind built into the cable. Unfortunately the functionality just isn't there and it does not allow for a connection between my DV devices and my computer. I think there may be some devices that are compatible with a direct-wire connection like this provides but I'm not aware of any and the listing doesn't provide information about what devices will not work. Unfortunately there just doesn't seem to be any value in this item and it may end up as e-waste.

I bought the wrong cable, thinking this was a printer to usb.No idea what this would plug into but the cable itself is well made and flexible.

The cable feels nice and solid but it wasn't recognized under Windows 10 or Linux. I don't even get any vendor or product ID in the dmesg console log. Log said it wasn't accepting any of the addresses given. Windows just said the device was unrecognized.

Back about 10...15 years ago, I'd do graphic work for online, as a side-job. And those files got to be many and very large, before I'd export them to usable formats. So, I transferred them to an external hard-drive.Because of the expensive programs involved (Photoshop, AutoCAD), I never broke even. And gave it up.Fast forwards, I'm cleaning house; of all the junk I've collected over time. Can't remember exactly what's on the drive, might be some personal information on it, might not be. So I'd like to clean it, before getting rid of it.Had to get a new power adapter, had to get a different cable, as no one has firewire to firewire anymore. But after all that, that disk is still dead. Not the power adapter's fault. Not the cable's fault. Disk is simply dead. That can happen to old junk. So, the cable is very good quality. Just it's getting to be a very niche type item anymore. Firewire is going the way of 8-track tapes I guess.
