I bought a set of these bits on a whim at an outlet about nine years ago. Once I used them I haven’t gone back to any other brand. The threaded point keeps the bit in place and pulls it through your work easily. They keep an edge, cut clean and haven’t let me down.

These are great bits. I needed a 7/16 bit for a project I was working on, and the kit that I'd bought previously didn't have that size, and the local HW store was out when I went to look. The bit I ordered did take a while to arrive, but that was no big deal.It is important that you use these bits correctly. The Bosch daredevil bits are a little different than your normal spade bits. The threaded end is meant to bite in, making drilling even quicker, and helping to keep you straight. HOWEVER...you are supposed to drill a small pilot hole for the threads. This insures that you get a proper bite when drilling into harder wood (it's not necessarily needed on softer 2x4's or similar, but for instance I'd recommend it for plywood). As another reviewer mentioned, the majority of low-star reviews seem to come from people who aren't using it correctly. While I disagree that you can't use these with a cordless drill, you need to have a quality one. A cheap-o drill with no torque may struggle, but my 18v Ridgid has not had any issues when using up to 1 1/2" spade bits.

I began my design of my wife's climbing wall, and saw that this bit was highly recommended by other wall builders. With a climbing wall, you use t-nuts on the back side of the plywood you mount for a climbing surface. So, I took 6 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood and clamped them in a stack and drilled through the stack, 12 rows of 6. As soon as the small tip grabs the wood it pulls itself through wood with aggression. I did find that, at least with plywood, drilling a shallow hole in each spot with a small bit made for an immediate grab by this bit. The only warning I give is you can't really take it easy drilling through with this.
