Makes a great cup of coffee. Fast brew. Easy to use. A cup for this maker is only 5 oz not 8. But makes perfect coffee and the insulated metal carafe keeps it warm for quite a while without a hot plate. I like the pre wet feature. Also easy to clean.

The machine makes great coffee, fast. However, the Bonavita Enthusiast I received was different from what was ordered. I had not even seen this model on the Bonavita website. The one pictured does not have the "sneak a cup" feature, but the one I received does. It was a welcome change until I unpacked the carafe. The lid is horrible. There are two small, boxy, sharp nubs on the side to turn it open, then a tiny and difficult to grip nub on the top to pull the lid free. It is very uncomfortable and difficult to open.I could overlook that, except the lid does not come apart for cleaning. The coffee drips down the nub on top and passes through inner chambers in the lid before dripping into the carafe. There is no way to take the lid apart to clean the chamber and it is not possible to get a brush in there to clean it.An otherwise wonderful coffee maker was ruined by such a poorly designed carafe lid. I also see now that the Enthusiast no longer appears on the Bonavita website.

I only write reviews if a had a particularly bad experience.FIRST SAID: I actually like the coffee maker very much and would have given it a 4 or 5 star review if it had a reasonable and safe carafe lid and if Bonavita stood behind their product.PROBLEM: The carafe lid is a one piece multi chamber assembly that collects coffee/water slowly over time and there is no way to directly or completely drain it. This nasty liquid comes out the assembly randomly depending on position and temperature. This liquid should not be in or near your coffee!!SUPPORT: I called Bonavita customer support about the problem and they were 100% evasive. They told me to contact Amazon or the sub-retailer even after I told them my thirty day return period had lapsed.KITCHEN KAPERS; a wonderfully helpful Amazon retailer told me that a new redesigned lid was being made in China and that they had no idea when they would be ready for sale.BONAVITA CUSTOMER SERVICE: I told Bonavita that I would like to be put on a list for a replacement lid (10 months left on warrantee). They amazingly instructed me to solve the problem with Kitchen Kapers who doesn't make or warrant the product. Every email sent to me basically told me to F off.I WILL NEVER BUY BONAVITA PRODUCT AGAIN.

After years with two versions of the Connoisseur coffeemaker, I "upgraded" to the Bonavita Enthusiast, unaware that the company has undergone "business restructuring". The machine I received (from Sur La Table) did not match the instructions. There's a button at the base of the filter basket that must engage with the lid of the carafe in order for the coffee to release from the basket (otherwise the basket will overflow and send coffee grounds crawling down the sides of the machine and splooshing onto your counter.) Within two months, the button and its adjacent parts detached from the basket. But it's even worse that that: the lid of the carafe is like the early Connoisseur in that it TRAPS COFFEE IN THE LID--gross--you can't take it apart to clean it. And the water reservoir leaks water every time you detach it to refill it. Furthermore, water doesn't fully drain from the unit, so if you unplug the machine and invert it when it is "finished brewing", water that you can't see (because the clear water reservoir is empty) will drain out of the center of the unit and sploosh onto your counter. Surprise!!! When I contacted Sur La Table to replace the broken filter basket, they told me to contact Bonavita. Bonavita says they don't carry the Enthusiast anymore. When I contacted Sur La Table to return the unit, they told me to get Amazon to accept the return. When Amazon wouldn't accept the return because it didn't fall under their A-to-Z promise, I contacted Sur La Table and they said to contact the manufacturer (Smart Co.) and gave me a phone number. Huh? Wait, what? If you sell a poorly designed product that falls apart in two months, there is no satisfaction guarantee? I urge you not to buy any more Bonavita products and I'm boycotting Sur La Table.

Makes awesome coffee,( This is why most people like their pot.) Looks very nice,Takes up little room on the counter,Has a low profile to fit under most cubberds,Has a sneak a brew feature, and is so simple to operate. The only improvement I would suggest is better insolation such as a glass thermal carafe to keep the coffee hotter longer.I would even pay little more for it. By the way plastic is perfectly OK as long as it's PBA free and durable. This is for making coffee,it's not a sledgehamer. I have had a Technovern and the BonaVita is preferable.
