This STURDY and colorful v-tech toy was THE best toy my son had in his 1-3 years of age. The music, songs, letters, and stories are clear. The toy works very well. It is educational, aids in walking, as well as fun, especially how it spits out the blocks. My husband didn’t even mind the sounds. I just bought this for my niece whose baby just turned 1 year old. I will also be purchasing this for my other niece and nephew who each have 6 month old babies. My son had this when he was 1, and he used it for several years. I sold my son’s v-tech train at a garage sale when he was 5, and it was still in perfect condition. Everything was still working like new.

So I'm deaf but my family has explained different aspects of the sounds this toy makes. It's a little boring, I guess, for adults. But, boy, does it thrill my son!Let me start by saying that this is perfect for smaller babies too. My son is a teeny boy because as a preemie he's not catching up height-wise yet. He's about 26 inches tall at 14 months old and loves standing unassisted and walking with assistance. The train engine detaches so easily from the car and he can totally handle zooming around holding on to the handles. Any toddler will love this, but it's great for babies who have to grow into the walking-the-ride (pedaling skills) part while practicing standing-to-walking. That gives babies double the enchanted period with this toy.So the noise...you get 13 letter blocks (one letter per side. 26 letters) and when you set it to talk rather than play music the slots on the bottoms of each letter correspond with the opposite side (the letter you SEE when the block is pressed into one of the 4 depressions next to the plastic book) so each letter is spoken out loud and the corresponding part in the book is "read out loud."So it's kind of fun for different stages in toddlerhood. The elephant makes noise when it's "honked." The toy "poops." The train car catches all the pooped-out letters for easy storage and can hold other toys. There's a silent setting. It's a toy that's definitely a good value.I really like the monkey/jungle toy by V-Tech too, and the backseat driver toy. We have had the cuddly spotted cow since before birth, and he adores it. The dog toy is currently meh in his opinion. Infantino musical toys are a real hit among adults and musically pleasing but at the moment my baby wants V-tech.

I bought this train for my son's first birthday. He instantly fell in love, and still plays with it daily a year later. Whenever other kids come over, this is the hot ticket item. I love that it is educational and teaches him letters, numbers, colors, songs, and stories. My son loves to take his stuffed animals for rides on his train, and he loves to store extra toys in the block bin at the back of the train.Pros:EducationalVolume adjuster or you can turn off the sound and they can still ride the train around with no noise. (I have not done this, though, as the songs do not annoy me)Long battery life. It has not been turned off since we got it a year ago, and it is still going strong with the same set of batteriesCan be used with younger kids as a walker, or with older kids as a ride-on toy, so it grows with your kidThe book pages are very thick and sturdyMultiple modes so your kid doesn't get bored with the same songs/activitiesDurable enough to withstand a crazy toddler who likes to crash into thingsThe block bin at the back has open sides, which allows multiple kids to reach in at the same time and grab blocks to send through the chute at the top. This means no fighting!Really cute!Cons:I honestly can't think of any cons. We absolutely love this toy. It is our most used/favorite baby item we've purchased so far.

This is one of my son's favorite toys. We got it for him at Christmas when he was about 9 months old. He is now nearly 1 year old. This toy has remained a favorite as his skills have developed. And I should say that he is a preemie, so his developmental age is adjusted by 6 weeks. (So essentially, we got it for him when he was developmentally 7.5 months and he is now developmentally about 10.5 months.) I share this just to give you an idea of our experience with the toy based on our kid's age.At first he really just liked handling the alphabet blocks and banging them together. They are perfectly sized for this. He also liked looking at the lights as the train played music. Then he started to flip the pages of the book and push the buttons on the train. As he learned to sit up, he liked to reach for the elephant conductor. Then he graduated to trying to pull up on the train and sitting on the back part with assistance, which he loves. Now that he is working on his manual dexterity and learning cause and effect, he likes to put the alphabet blocks into the train and see them shoot out the back. He is also trying now (sometimes successfully) to put the alphabet blocks into place on the side of the train. I can foresee him sitting unassisted on the back soon, and using the train engine as a walker in the near future. This toy has a nice variety of music in its two modes of play. And it has two volume settings. (Hooray for volume control!) The music and voices are pleasant. (Some toys have OBNOXIOUS voices; thankfully, this isn't one of those.)This train has already provided HOURS of educational entertainment for our son, and with each stage of his development there seems to be something new for him to do with it. We are SO glad we bought this for him for Christmas. It was well worth the money. I would highly recommend it.

After much research, I decided to get this toy despite some of the negative reviews. It is definitely an educational toy and my M's face lights up every time the music plays. She loves setting off the elephant and fiddling with the block placement wholes. She's only 7 months, but as she's been pulling on everything to stand, we decided to get her a walker. The other reviewers are spot on, this is not the best walker out there. Maia is on the small side, only 12lbs and the train cannot support her weight when she uses the handle to pull up or if she's on the side and using it for support, the train will fall on top of her if she goes backwards. The train is too narrow and not heavy enough to act as a counter-balance. However, after I attached the train and the caboose together side by side, it can now support her. I attached them by taping the wheels together, it is secure enough and still rolls pretty well. There is a gap there now above the wheels, but we've put a rolled up blanket there and never leave her alone with the toy so it is safe enough. Now the train is too wide to topple side ways and heavy enough to act as a counter balance when she is pulling herself up. She is already trying to climb all over the toy!The music can get repetitive and we always have it on the lower volume. But it does switch itself off after a while and there are two different settings. M is still too young to use the interactive play, but she has figured out the elephant and the buttons.M definitely has fun with the toy, which is why I'm rating it so highly...and it will last her for a long while, she can learn her letters with the repetition which is a killer for us to do. Vtech should look into changing their design, widening the train and making it heavier would definitely work...or design it so the train and caboose attach next too each other as well, it can progress to attaching behind as the child is able to stand by themselves and ride the caboose...We've only had it a few weeks so far but the book doesn't look that durable...I keep thinking that M is going to rip one of the pages out...otherwise it seems ok...the elephant does look wobbly...we'll see how long it lasts.Overall I'd say I would recommend the toy if you're willing to make your own adjustments. You do get a lot for your money...the alphabet blocks are definitely multifunctional and something they can play with apart from the train.
