I bought this to sync two Canon XF105 cameras for an independent stereoscopic 3D film. Since I plan on showing the film in a theater, I wanted 24 frame progressive recording. I read that 24p sync required a tri-level signal, which this claims to provide, and the camera claims to accept via genlock. I was never able to achieve sync at 24p.The big problem with this device is the lack of documentation. The controls on the generator are 8 dip switches on the side. There is a terse list of all possible signals on the back, next to their respective dip switch configuration. There is no indication of which signals are tri-level, except that the back of the box says that all HD signals are tri-level. There are no lights or anything to indicate which signal is active.The 24 frame formats are called 1080psf/24 and 1080psf/23.98. Neither setting resulted in any feedback from the cameras. Another setting, 1080i/59.94, resulted in a genlock icon displayed on the cameras. However, with the cameras set at 24p, the sensor scan did not actually sync up despite the cameras reporting genlock. When set to 30p, the sensor scan always sync'ed using the 59.94 signal. I was also able to sync the cameras at 30p by feeding the component output of one camera into the genlock of the other. Since I can sync at 30p without the generator, and cannot sync at 24p, this generator is useless for me.I'm returning the generator, and won't be buying it again unless someone can show me how to sync to it at 24p.

After reading the other review by the customer I felt that I needed to give a somewhat corrected review. The other customer probably didn't realize that you need to go to the Blackmagic Design website under the SUPPORT tab follow the instructions for downloading the instructions manual and drivers.I do agree that more instructions could have been given with the initial package but this is the case for all Blackmagic Design products.You will also need to install the Utility software on your computer and use the USB port to setup the Mini Converter.This process also frustrated me when I first started using the Blackmagic devices but after talking with a support engineer it became a simple matter of downloading the latest drivers and manuals (which should be done with all hardware). I found it easier to leave a message for support than to call.I'll try to come back later to give a more detailed review.
