I have been using the Amazon Kindle DX International reader since its introduction in 2010 up to date. The battery has been replaced a couple of times and the joystick knob plastic disintegrated, so I repaired it using epoxy. This reader was perfect because it has a decent 9.6" screen that is easy to read. Over the years many books now have color illustrations, especially special literature and I started to use the Kindle application on my iPad for these books. iPad is a perfect reader with vibrant colors and great performance, but unfortunately, it is not eye-friendly when used for long reading, at least for me. So I decided to purchase a color eInk tablet to substitute my old trusty Amazon Kindle DX and after some investigation, I chose the Bigme B1051C Pro. I was eager to see how this new color technology works despite it being quite expensive, so I ordered it. After all, there is a 30-day return option in case I am not satisfied with the gadget. It is the first Android-based device that I have, so I expected some learning curve. The tablet has many applications installed, that could be categorized as productivity: E-Reading, Note-taking, Browser, BigmeGPT, Calculator, Calendar, Sound Recorder, WPS Office Lite, XMail (e-mail), XPhoto (image viewer/editor). My main goal is reading ebooks in FB2, MOBI, EPUB, and PDF format, so the only available stock application is E-Reading, which is quite basic with limited abilities to organize the library and adjust font and page color. There is also the Kindle app installed, and it works out of the box the same as on iPad, providing a very similar reading experience: all my custom book collections automatically were available after I logged into my Amazon account, even preserving the point where I stopped reading last time on iPad. Since Kindle is working with Amazon-purchased books, I need a good application, that I can use for non-Amazon books. After reading some opinions, I purchased the ReadEra PRO application on Google Play and started to read books. The initial experience was quite poor - pages were suffering from ghosting, the font size and pitch were too small for my eyes and the main problem was that the font color was a bit washed out, making the text not contrast on an already grayish page. After struggling with the E-Ink center I found that the ghosting is mitigated by screen refresh and the appropriate threshold is 5. Other settings do not affect page quality, at least I can't see the difference. I was very frustrated and started to think about returning my purchase, but before that, I decided to learn the ReadEra app.After looking at social networks for ReadEra reviews, I found out, that this app provides page and font customization. It was quite difficult to understand how to get a page customization menu because there is no ReadEra Help or documentation, but by tapping on different page areas I finally learned how to open a page customization menu.I got the perfect results, customizing the font size and contrast to my taste on a light sepia background.Needed to say that other installed applications support handwriting and OCR, text translation, and many other things that I am not using currently, if at all.The reading experience is great and books with color illustrations look very usable.Battery life is also great (3 hours of reading drying battery by 2%) and the ability to surf the web anytime you need and use a built-in BegmeGPT application (based on DeepSink engine) is very handy.The device's build quality is top-notch and is similar to Apple products. Of course, the Android OS feels a bit clunky on the eInk screen, but the book-reading abilities are perfect! So Bigme B1051C PRO is a keeper!
