This is a straightforward telescoping entrance guard - simply extend or retract as needed. You can also rotate the setup 90 degrees if you want to completely block the entrance (for instance, if you only want them using the top entrance, or if you wanted to completely cover the opening for a big storm). So far these have kept the mice out! Fingers crossed for the rest of winter, but I'm feeling confident with these. The bees enter and exit regularly still, and the holes are slightly elevated so even small insects would have a more difficult time getting in the entrance. If you're newer to beekeeping, I would recommend removing these entirely in the late spring, summer and early fall as it will limit the traffic flow into the hive. I'm only using this for November thru March in PA.

Metal is heavy enough gauge to stop mice and secure to the hive nicely. The adjustable width is great. I wish there were some different "blanks" that could block more entry holes. If you want to block more entry points (like in winter) you will have to cut the other blank and double them up.

The bees love this entrance! Easy to defend yet plenty of room for foraging, I like this best of anyI have tried. And I have tried many, lol! What can I say, I've been searching for the perfect entrance for my 8-frame hives (10-frame have a LOT more options!) and finally found it! I bought four and I only have two hives, lol! Will have to get more hives! :). Nice work, Foxhound.

I didn't use every part of this kit since I was refurbishing a kegerator that still had some of the parts, but the parts I did use worked great, and the parts I didn't use seemed true to the original. I'd buy again.

These mouse guard/entrance reducers are excellent. They are very sturdy and surprisingly weighty. The off-center placement of the holes puts the openings flush with the landing board which allows the bees to drag out hive debris without having to lift it up and over a centered hole. Ventilation holes in the receiver rail allow for airflow and the sliding bar can be flipped to close the entrance for transport. Nice product.

I didn't think the installation was as intuitive as I would have liked.

Worked great for me, needed a nut for a CO2 line I over tightened, this was the exact size, the hose attachment is not, but the old one was fine as I only broke the nut.

Quality materials. Does what it is supposed to do. I've posted a photo to help others that are unsure about how the parts should be arranged for a proper installation.

I will embarrass myself writing this, but do so in case others attempt to connect these incorrectly (as I did). When you receive this, the o-ring will be inside the hex nut. You need to take the o-ring out first so it can be placed between the shank and the tailpiece. I left mine in the hex nut (It looked like it was in there for a reason, hahah!) and inserted the tailpiece through the back the hex nut (so it looked like the o-ring was getting squeezed through the front of the hex nut). This was obviously improper and lead to leaking. It was easily fixed but can lead to a compromised o-ring.So your install order should be: Shank -> o-ring -> tailpiece/hose barb -> hex nut -> worm clamp (remember to put this on your tubing before attaching to tailpiece hose barb)Don't be like me. Be much smarter than me.
