Amazing beginners and not so beginners radio users. the kit with 2 ants and 2 batteries is awesome, the mic/speaker a total plus. The new batteries with Type-c port is what is going to take over other companies everything is type-c now even iphones. The radio is very easy to use, I tested on a wooden area and I was able to hear loud and clear over 3 miles away, no repeaters used just radio to radio, perfect for off road. Super recommended.

Not sure why folks want to spend $39 and then are angry when the $39 radio isn't as good as a $300 Yaesu or Icom. That said, the UV-9R Pro is a fairly good all use radio. It is a UV-5R under the hood and that means no learning curve for Baofeng users. I have the long whip and speaker mike installed and as a package I like it very much. Send/receive is excellent, audio from mike and radio is very acceptable...no issues. IP67 rating test will have to wait for a test as I just cannot bring myself to dunk any radio into a creek.Have had it with me for a month in Western North Carolina after Helene for monitoring relief efforts. This radio is performing as well as my Yaesu VX5 ever did in austere conditions. It's been knocked around some, but I haven't done the drop test either.I really like this radio. No, it's not a $300+ Yaesu or Icom, but for $39 it's a solid, disposable radio that works real well inreal world scenarios. Battery life is very good and I charge this using 100% solar.Great value, great performance, programs the same as UV-5 series radios so short learning curve. Feels heavy/sturdy. In short, a great piece of kit.

Lots of distractors out there putting down Baofeng HT radios, this should not be one of them. First, not a true 8 watt radio, but mine does put out a solid 7.2 watts; plenty enough for what HTs are used for. Unlike previous versions of their HTs this one has a good solid feel and yes I did drop it accidently on concrete and no damage what so ever. I especially like the USB-C charging port on this radio. Means I can charge it up on the same battery pack I use for my Internet facing devices. No need to buy extra batteries for long ARES activations. Yes, easy to use and program, just read the manual, it's all there. Also free Chrip software makes programming a breeze. Really, at this price this is a must have.

The short story is that the UV9R Pro does everything I wanted it to and it does it very well. The radio arrived well packaged and on time. I inventoried the contents of the box and all the items displayed in the packaging photo on Amazon were present. The battery snapped in nicely and securely and when I powered up the radio it showed 3 bars indicating a full or close-to-full charge. The radio has a nice hefty feel to it and the green case has a pretty cool military look, especially when I use it with my ABBREE tactical folding antenna.I removed the side cover from the radio and attached the included USB programming cable which I was glad to see came with its own attachment screw. Note that the screw is not retained in the cable end so it can be easily lost if you are not careful. I warily plugged the cable into my very fussy Windows 11 computer that strictly refused to assign my older Baofeng programming cables a com port even if I loaded an older driver. Well, after a few seconds of thinking about it, Windows 11 happily loaded its own driver for the new programming cable and assigned a valid com port. I opened up CHIRP (the newest "next" version) and selected "UV9R Pro" from the drop down menu plus the assigned com port and downloaded everything that was in the radio. I archived that "codeplug" and then saved it again with a different name so I could edit it. This proved to be very easy as I opened another tab in CHIRP with the channel contents of my Radioddity GA-510 and simply copied and pasted in all the channels to my UV9R Pro tab. After making a few edits to the settings of the UV9R Pro codeplug I uploaded that into the UV9R Pro and it happily came to life perfectly.Side-by-side comparisons with the GA-510 revealed very little TX/RX difference between the two radios. The transmitted audio from the UV9R is loud and clean and the received audio sounds better than the GA-510 to my ears but that's a pretty subjective assessment. The broadcast FM band definitely sounds nicer than any of my other handheld radios that have that feature. I misplaced my SMA to BNC adapter so until I find that I cannot make any accurate measurements of power output. Using a field strength meter I did confirm appropriate displayed deflection when low, medium, and high TX power were cycled. With my GA-510 and UV9R Pro equipped with similar antennas they both heard VHF and UHF activity equally well. On the weather band, the UV9R Pro and GA-510 seemed pretty equal, although I could detect a weather station that is located 100 miles away very weakly with the UV9R Pro that the GA-510 could not hear at all. I did notice one quirk with the UV9R Pro squelch while listening to weather stations. For some reason, on the weather band frequencies the squelch does not break normally, even with a squelch setting of 1. If I pressed the PTT button, the "TX disabled beep" would sound (as it should) and then the squelch would remain open. Not sure what's up with that but this squelch behavior is not present on any channels where TX is enabled. I have no plans to intentionally test the waterproof capabilities of the UV9R Pro but if I accidentally drop it over the side of the boat I'll dive in after it and retrieve it feeling pretty sure that it will survive. An unexpected bonus is the bright backlighting for the keypad on this radio for quick memory channel selection in dark conditions. An option to keep the display and keypad illumination "ON" all the time would be a very welcome feature in my opinion as the current drain for the LED backlighting is negligible. This particular UV9R Pro package is an excellent deal especially given the extra 15" AR771 antenna and the Windows 11 compatible programming cable that comes in the box. No regrets here and I am very pleased with the performance of this rugged little radio.

This is not a Walkie Talkie, it is an Amateur radio the does require a license to transmit on. That being said I am not a HAM but I have the radio for the I.C.E. situations or to hear HAMs on the trail. Over all pretty clear radio, and from what I have seen does pretty good as far as transmitting. How ever it doesn’t transmit 8w. It’s closer to 5w on some frequencies and 4w on most frequencies. But it’s to be expected. If you want a true 8w to 10w radio you will need to buy higher quality radios but for entry level it is definitely worth it.
