Guter Einsteiger gunpla.

HGUC MS-18E KAMPFERAlright, its time to test my MS recommending skills: how does the Kampfer hold up in my opinion after 7 years?Construction-wise, the Kampfer is still pretty amazing as a kit. The joints are solid and the proportions are spot on compared to the anime. The weapons look great, the colors are right on, and everything seems to check out. However, what truly kills the Kampfer and shows its age are the stickers and thrusters that plague this kit. The thrusters are everywhere, and due to the fact that the insides of every thruster is bright sandy yellow, the kit doesn't look complete without a big makeover on the painting department. Furthermore, the white stickers are horrific. They cover the ring occupying the commander antennae and the shoulder spike, but the application is nowhere near perfect and the effect it creates leaves much to be desired. The stickers overlap as they must be wrapped around the pieces they cover, and the overlap looks pretty horrendous. Finally, the Kampfer lacks the many orange highlights around the face, chest, and crotch sections. Unlike the ZZ Gundam, which came out later and resolved the issue, the Kampfer doesn't have anything to touch up on the lack of colors whatsoever.Articulation is great with the Kampfer, though only on the upper body. The head is on a double ball joint both inside the cranium and at the base of the neck. The spiked shoulder pauldron is on a ball joint while the non spiked one is on a hinge. The elbows go almost 180 degrees on a single joint, which is impressive, and a bicep swivel and ball jointed hand is par for the course. The upper chest also articulates on a ball joint which is connected to the crotch section and covered by a gray torso, a very nice touch. However, this leads us to the legs. The feet are fine, as they have a ball jointed ankle and a pivot that goes with it. The knees on the other hand leave much to be desired. Due to the thruster which randomly juts out at the back of the thighs, the knee can only bend 90 degrees despite having 2 joints and being able to go a full 180 if the thrusters weren't there. Gimped much?Accessory on the Kampfer is probably its strongest attribute. For starters, the Kampfer comes with 2 rocket launchers. These can be mounted on the back or be held in both fists, allowing for dual-wielding. Furthermore, two Sturm Faust's are mounted on the calves, which can also be held for dual wielding. Two Beam Sabers are also included, but sadly cannot be inserted into the Kampfer's thigh like in the anime. For some more unique accessories, the Kampfer comes equipped with 2 shot guns, as well as two stocks for the shotguns to show them in either the expanded or collapsed form. The Kampfer comes with 2 trigger-finger hands for this, and dual wielding is again possible with even the shot gun! Furthermore, the hands can hold the guns in both collapsed and expanded modes! The collapsed gun can be attached to the "butt" of the mobile suit via a clasp. An open hand is also included for holding the forestock of the gun, as well as cupping a fist for a Zaku I style shoulder tackle. Finally, the Kampfer's main attraction is its Chain Mine, which was used to destroy the Gundam NT-1 Alex's Chobham Armor. The mine is replicated with a metal wire wrapped in black rubber, with each mine being individually assembled, "hamburgering" the wire at each interval. The overall effect is great, but the wire isn't too malleable, so posing is limited. The chain's handle pegs into a hole on the Kampfer's right fist. Holding in the left hand is also possible, though the left hand lacks the hole for the handle's peg to peg into.Despite its age, the Kampfer held up very well as a kit. The posability is great, the marking seals for the Zeon symbol and the Cyclops Team symbol look great, and the weapon payload is amazing for the price. However, this wasn't a great kit for beginners at all. A lot of effort is required for the orange accents on the Mobile Suit, and it really shows the poor aging of the kit when Bandai didn't even provide orange anythings for the thrusters on the legs. It's a fun kit, though it definitely needs a lot of paint for its true potential.
