Bought this for my Greenland and Iceland trip and it became everyday wear. I absolutely love the feel and the warmth of this. This is another product where I'll go out of my way to write a nice review because it's just that good not paid just saying. I went ice climbing and got stuck in a rainstorm in an ice cave. It got wet it was cold outside but I was never cold and when I got out of the rain and wiped the water off of me within a few hours I was dry. It was like it was magic. On other days when it was hot I was not hot wearing this I don't know how that works but it does. It never got smelly and just did what it was supposed to do. Great for light packing The only downside is that when you do have to wash it you have to be careful. I'm not someone who reads the labels and takes great care of my clothes but you do want to pay attention given the price. Hang dry. That said this is literally in my hands right now as I'm packing for Antarctica and it's going to be my go-to on that trip as well.

I thought alpaca was supposed to be soft. Maybe there are ways of processing it or certain types that are different, but this was not comfortable to me.

This is a nice garment but it is NOT the one in the photo, last time I checked. The one in the photo is now appears to be obviously the HEAVYWEIGHT. The lightweight one I purchased is good for OUTDOOR WINTER WORKOUTS South of FORT BRAGG. The HEAVYWEIGHT would work for that for many people out to Vancouver Island.If you are engaged in more sedate activity, or run cold, the HEAVYWEIGHT is good for Winters North of Point Conception. Great stuff, with performance that may exceed Merino.I'd LIKE TO SEE: ARMPIT GUSSETS and MORE COLORS on this modelOn the HEAVYWEIGHT, ARMPIT ZIPPERS that won't a braid the material would be great.
