Works like a champ. Purchased a fender player Strat and the frets were not beveled properly. This did the job, coupled with fret dressing, and we are in business.

There is no way this wooden holder will file just the ends of frets. I tried two different slots. The only thing it was going to file was the wood of the neck of my guitar. I could not get the file in the third slot. The screw intended to hold the file in place had spalled the wood out when the manufacturer screwed it in. See photo.

This is primarily a well-cut and nicely finished wood block intended to hold a file at a steady angle while you guide the block up and down the neck, sliding on the frets. There are two brass-looking screws per slot which effectively hold the included file. This is an extremely aggressive file (for fretwork). It might be useful during a re-frets to hog off all the over-extended frets on a side, but not down to flush. This file will damage any finish, wood, or softer metal it touches. So if any of the frets are already flush, this will dip inward, aiming straight for your fretboard. I'll give this three stars because it can hold other files.

The rectangular file is too wide after screwed in the holder and it might touch the guitar's top. I opted to use the file alone without the holder. Also the edge of the file is too rough I had to use sand paper to dress it prior to use the file.

This fret file helped me get a new acoustic-electric into proper form after a few months of playing around the guitar's quirks. When I ordered it from the description I had at the time, I was expecting something a little more basic, but this file has a nice options to let you bevel your frets to set specifications. and that's a huge plus. Good value, too, considering what it will do.Fits nicely in your hand, and easy to use with a light touch so you don't get too aggressive with your filing. Ergonomic and easy to grip.Made from quality materials, and looks to be a file that should last many years.Improved my new(er) acoustic-electric considerably from its off-the-shelf build. It was an affordable guitar, so I expected some engineering time involved at some point. This file brought the fretboard into a nice comfort level for me in short order.Having tools like this file--along with the rest of my growing collection of luthier tools--also opens up the option to pick up a discount instrument now and then knowing I'll be able to fix most minor issues. All of that in a really reasonable price point is a win. Form, function, and a nice-looking tool on the shelf.
