I ordered the Apexstone Espresso Tamper to take the place of the lightweight plastic one that was included in my espresso machine. I was drawn to it over the many others available because of its looks and low price.The tamper is solid- weighing in at 9.5 ounces. The black plastic handle fits well in my hand and makes it easy to tamp down on the coffee. The spring-loaded movement is subtle because the outer rim of the tamper doesn't move when the handle is pushed down, but the result is even, compressed espresso in the portafilter.I'm very pleased with the Apexstone Espresso Tamper. It is easy to use and clean and it works well at a very reasonable price point.

Comparing a high-end Normcore tamper to this budget Apexstone tamper, you really see where the extra money goes. No extra swappable springs. No click feedback. No adjustable settings. No tamper mat/holder. These are things you get with a high-end tamper that costs 4 times as much. Not here with Apexstone.As long as you are aware of what you are getting here, this tamper is a great deal. This Apexstone tamper is basic with no extras. But what you ARE getting for 10dollars is a solid tamper made of stainless steel and aluminum. The handle is black anodized aluminum. I've included a photo of the deconstructed tamper. 5 parts that screw together. No nonsense. Basic spring tamper.

This spring loaded tamper performs an excellent job of providing consistent pressure every time, which really improves the consistency of my espresso shots. Since utilizing it, I've seen more uniform pulls and can confidently fine-tune other aspects such as grind size, amount, and temperature. The only little change I had to make was to put slightly less coffee in the basket to allow the tamper to compress properly. Overall, it's a useful tool for anyone trying to increase consistency in their espresso.

I’ve been using this with my Breville Barista Express, and the 54mm size is a perfect fit. It feels solid in the hand and well-built—especially for the price. If you’re looking for a simple, reliable tamper, this one definitely delivers.The tamper has a spring mechanism, but I haven’t really noticed much spring action during use. It may be due to the amount of grinds that I have in the Portafilter. It's possible that it's a little bit too full and I'm not getting to the proper level for the spring to function correctly... or might be a bit more subtle than expected, though it doesn’t affect the usability.Personally, I tend to use a different style of tamper that includes a distributor on one side and an adjustable-depth tamper on the other—but that’s just a matter of workflow and preference. For someone who prefers a straightforward, spring-type tamper, this is a great choice.

This thing is very well built and has a good amount of weight/heft to it. It tamps very nicely with a spring loaded action.Don't be quick to judge it when you get it - as the instructions note it only springs down when used on an appropriately sized Portafilter (the edge is what separates from the body, not the center - meaning it doesn't spring just in the palm of your hand). Highly recommend!
