So far, Angelus is the best dye I have found available in California. It goes on smoothly for a nice finish (with multiple coats it's best).

Following build videos by BigD on Youtube, I attempted a few guitar staining projects. The black and turquoise one was a strip and refinish, and the other has a turquoise faux binding and a variety of angelus stains to create the water color effect on the body. For my process, check out ZRPC Guitars on Instagram. Cheers!

Love product. True to color only thing is that one bottle is not enough. For any project. These bottles are very small do not have good cpverage

This stain is much more preferable because if you've done all your sanding right on the wood, it'll sink in and not even raise the grain afterward. If you're working with figured wood, you just hit it 0000 steel wool until it really pops and seal it. Truoil (i.e linseed oil with quick drying properties) does remove the stain a wee bit but not so much as to need a sealer if you're not rush the project. II tend to run a slighty wet paper towel on it after application and that seems to help when going to apply the truoil on my pieces of figured pine and some african mahogany. Great product.Alcohol based dye is something else.Wear gloves with this.
