i use this mat for filleting salmon. It grips the fish great and makes the fillet knife easier to handle.

We kept seeing these advertised and finally ordered one and now wonder why we didn't years ago. It totally made cleaning and filleting so much easier. The fish really stays where it is supposed to with this mat. Definitely ordering another one. Best item purchased in ages.... every fisherman needs this.

I fish 3-5 times a week in the Pacific Ocean, mostly for salmon, California halibut, White Sea Bass and occasionally a variety of rock fish. I purchased this mat to make the task of fileting easier. The mat works well holding the fish in place. Larger fish are a bit more difficult as the mat isn't that big. But I filleted large salmon and halibut on it so far. It has held up thus far to knife cuts. While I would definitely recommend this mat, it is very similar to an automobile rubber mat. If you had one laying around that might also work.

Need a decent size fish to try out. That won’t happen until Spring. Looks like what I needed in combo with filleting board overlap.

I don't leave reviews very often, but feel obliged to do so in this case in the spirit of passing on info to the average fisherperson/consumer.I have used differnet materials and products and various means to limit slippery fish movement when trying to clean/fillet them. This product tops everything!I use it regularly for trout, kokanee, and just filleted some salmon as well. The Mat limits any movement and certainly makes it incredibly easy. I only wish I had know about it/purchased it earlier.The Mat's flexibility is appreciated for cleaning and storage. Doesn't seem to hold any odor after being cleaned up.Initially, I used the mat at home after fishing, but now take it with me, for fishing cleaning on the tailgate, after getting off the lake.I initially thought the price was kinda steep - but think it's absolutely worth it now.
