Basically have to have a PD power brick and then this lets you convert to an old school cigarette lighter adapter style.With a PD jack the output can be adjusted as follows:5V 2A = 10 Watts9V 2A = 18 Watts12V 2A = 24 Watts15V 2A = 30 Watts20V 1.6A = 36 WattsSo if you have a 40 Watts USB C PD adapter this would output 20 Volts and 2 Amps for your device that has the old school adpater.

Wanted to run dash cam with it . When trying to get 12 volt settings it would show 12 volt then would show error thenback to 5 volt. Had another brand which worked fine til I broke end off.

I've tried several versions of these. This is the most flexible so far. Some have USB-A or USB-C connectors and will output 12v but at very low current, often less than 1A. They appear to use only the 5v USB output and use a buck converter to get the voltage up to 12v. Others have USB-C connectors and will handshake with the PD port to pull whatever it will provide up to 12v, but you don't get to choose. This one will handshake with the PD port and tell it what voltage to provide. The selected voltage is displayed by the button used to change the output voltage.My need is most often to charge radio batteries when there is no place to plug in the wall wart that came with the radio or charger. Nearly all of them use either 10v or 12v. There's no 10v option, but the lithium batteries actually need to charge to 7.4v, so anything over that (9v) is sufficient IF it can provide adequate current, usually about 1A. I tried using 12v on one of those needing 10v and the charger couldn't handle it.There are obviously many other uses for this. If you have a battery pack to charge cell phones, this can let you use it to power small 12v devices. Need to pull 12v from your USB-C laptop? Now you can.

I had a very specific need for needing to power a cigarette lighter off USB-C and not the other way around which is common. My antique truck just happened to have its 12v outlet fail during a week long car show/cruise. This outlet runs my FM radio adapter so I needed some way to power it off my battery bank that I carry to keep my phone and other items charged.This worked perfectly. It kept the unit running and handled everything I could throw at it so long as supplied it sufficient wattage (65w in my case) PD power. I'd almost venture that you could potentially even get a car cigarette lighter to actually warm up with this, but I wouldn't recommend trying it and I'm not going to.So if you have that one rare case of needing this pick this little unit up. It won't leave you disappointed.
