3M Softback Sanding Sponge sands hard-to-reach areas on cars, trucks and vans such as around headlight openings, door handles, door jambs and other locations. The soft, flexible foam backing conforms to virtually any profile or shape on a vehicle. These sponges are coated with long-lasting aluminum oxide abrasive.

When you need to sand a location that is challenging to reach, or need to uniformly sand a unique profile, choose a 3M Softback Sanding Sponge for its ability to conform to most any shape or reach difficult spots. The soft foam backing is more flexible than conventional paper backed sandpaper. To access tight locations, the foam backing has been made relatively thin as compared to many other sanding sponges. Use these sponges for hand-sanding applications where you need more precision and detail than could be achieved with machine-sanding methods.

A Variety of Abrasive Grades
These sponges are available in a range of grades, including microfine (grade 1200 to 1500), ultrafine (grade 800 to 1000), superfine (grade 500 to 600), fine (320 to 400) and medium (grade 120 to 180). Each grade uses a range of mineral sizes.

I love these sponges for finish sanding on painted furniture, particularly if you wet sand to get that buttery smooth finish. Purchasing one at a time can get pricey so I was happy to be able to buy in a multi-pack. We renovated our house and I used them to sand between paint layers on our stair banister and they worked perfectly. Great quality sanding sponge.

This is truly a quality item, it is durable and long lasting and cleans out well. Any sanding sponge will eventually wear out, but this product lasted better than expected. Sanding latex finishes is particularly challenging because they tend to gum up sanding blocks. However, this item did not gum up, as my experience with latex sanding resulted in coarse dust instead. Whatever material did collect in the abrasive was easily worked out while dry with a vacuum... I did not have to use water to wash it out. So even though this was a soft backed flexible sanding sponge, it performed very well; but eventually it does wear out, so a bulk box was a good thing. I found that using it to scuff semi-gloss latex trim did not induce deep/unsightly scratches, but rather removed the shine only; so primer/paint adhered and covered well. I deduct only one star because the item is pricey.

Have used these for years for final sanding before finishing, great product
