These kits are fun to play around with and they work. Educational. I built two rechargeable arc lighters using 21700 lithium ion batteries for power with these kits and have no complaints. I sealed them with epoxy and they have worked quite well. Both light fires easily from dry tinder or paper. Interesting project for me, I'm trying to learn a bit and practice my soldering so I play with kits like this. Carefully of course.

Terrible product. Typical Chinese product with false specs. Transformer has 4 wires but pcb has only 3 holes. No instructions to explain which two transformer wires are combined. Insulation on transformer wires very difficult to remove. Output voltage 1/10 of advertised. Good for intermittent use (1-2 min) only or the transistor gets very hot. Returned this very disappointed. I should have known better. This is getting to be typical of China products sold on Amazon. Buyer beware.

When I built the first one it didn't work. The transistor would get hot and it was drawing a lot of amperage. So I did some reading on it. Its called a flyback transformer because the DC voltage gets reversed in the windings. When you solder the wires from the transformer into the circuit board you have to take one of the thicker wires from one side and combine it with the thinner wire from the other side and those go in the center hole. Then the other thick wire goes in the left hole and the other thin wire goes in the one on the far right looking down from the top. There are thick and thin lines painted on the circuit board showing where the thick and thin wires go. Don't let it run to long or it will melt the insulation in the windings and short out. Also don't use DC voltage higher than 5 or 6 Volts or it will do the same. One of mine fried right away at 7 volts.
