This is the second bait caster I’ve purchased, and it was a huge step up from my previous (Kast King Megatron). It definitely took some getting used to but overall it’s a lot of fun, it’s smooth as butter and very precise. It’s perfect for casting right under those low hanging branches by the bank. The reel also feels very solid but still lighter than my Megatron, also really nice to palm. I do wish it had the clicking tension knob but besides that it’s a great reel that I hope I can continue to use for a while.

It's very smooth. You have to make some adjustments but other than that, It's a good reel.

I haven't had a chance to actually use it yet but the reel feels really good in your hand and is buttery smooth when trying out the handle.

For starters the brakes are really easy to adjust on all beetle wing 13 models. I see people saying that the brakes are “impossible to adjust even before spooling!”I used to be that guy. I’m no longer that guy.Put your thumb on the spool and hold it in place. Do that and the breaks adjust like any other reel. It’s that easy. Now for the meat and potatoes. I got mine on sale for $140, and it behaves like a $300 reel. My friend bought a very expensive Daiwa in the same gear ratio, and the only difference I noticed was that the 13 was lighter, and the 13 grips were foam as opposed to rubber, which made it impossible to lose grip. It’s made completely out of metal, but remains very light, and the color is neutral which is important to some guys. That’s not to mention the cool Slide thing. The differences it makes are small, but it really does make a difference. It isn’t for adjusting after a technique switch. Instead, it’s for finding that perfect sweet spot for the technique that you’re already using. This things casts smooth, far, and accurately. I can huck a wacky rig on 50 lb braid tied to a 12 ft fluoro leader as far as I want. The drag is immense, but the adjustments are small. I find that these big drag models tend to be “all or nothing” and thats not the case with the bulldog drag.In short, this thing behaves like a reel that’s double the price, and only gets fully outperformed by the flagships. There’s no reason to get anything more expensive than this reel unless your going for the cream of the crops like the matanium. This reel makes almost every reel under $400 obsolete in my opinion.Like I said, it’s a secret weapon. The only reason I have to consider another brand is that my buddy (the same one) drove away with his expensive daiwa sitting on his tailgate, and it didn’t fall off until he got onto the main road. The daiwa ate it like a champ, not even a scratch.Stop looking and just buy this reel. I can’t believe you read this much and didn’t buy it already.
