TRENZA CONSTITUTION

University of California,

Berkeley October 12, 1994

PREAMBLE

We, the members of TRENZA, for the purpose of forming a more established, united, and prolific organization, do establish this Constitution.

Article I – Appellation SECTION I. The organization shall adhere to the name TRENZA. This title shall symbolize the unity of sisterhood, Chicana/Latina pride, and academic/social support which the organization shall possess.

Article II – Resolution SECTION I.

The purpose of TRENZA shall be to have a strong foundation of academic and social support for Chicana/Latina women on the UC Berkeley campus. We believe that as women and a racial minority on campus, we need an autonomous support group in order to succeed at UC Berkeley. TRENZA shall incorporate Chicana/Latina culture as well as instill a strong drive for academic success as Chicana/Latinas. As women, we believe we can accomplish anything we set our mind to. Our purpose is to do for ourselves whatever is necessary to succeed. TRENZA shall respect the views of its members. As Chicanas/Latinas we are aware of the diversity amongst us and therefore we shall acknowledge the need to be inclusive and respect shall be clearly stressed from every TRENZA member so as to create a strong foundation for the success of the organization and for each member to receive academic, social and personal support from the other members. A sisterhood shall be what the women shall strive for, so that with unity, TRENZA will be strong for success.
